Internal tools fail quietly. They are built around an imagined process, ask people to duplicate information, or add a new screen without making the underlying work any easier.
Start with the person in the middle of the process
Before designing a dashboard or workflow, sit with the person who carries the handoff. What do they need to know? What are they checking twice? What would make the next step obvious?

Make progress visible early
A small working slice gives users something to react to and gives the team a way to improve the right thing. That is how a tool earns a place in the workflow instead of becoming another tab to ignore.
